Traditional Thai Massage

What is Traditional Thai Massage?

Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient healing art which has its roots in the Indian Ayurvedic medicine system. This unique and highly relaxing massage is based on the concept of energy lines (Sen) running through the body and combines elements of acupressure, yoga, reflexology and ayurveda. The working of these Sen lines breaks blockages, stimulates the free flow of energy and helps to restore general well-being.

I practise the Northern style of Traditional Thai Massage which is much gentler than the harder Southern or Bangkok style.
Traditionally it is a long massage and duration ranges from two to three hours.

History of Traditional Thai Massage

Therapies Offered #02
Much of the origins remain obscure. Contrary to its name the earliest roots are found in Buddhist India. The legendary founder is believed to have been Dr Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, a yogi and ayurvedic doctor from northern India who was a contemporary of the Buddha and personal physician to the Magadha King Bimbisra over 2500 years ago.

Traditional Thai Massage spread with Buddhism and Buddhism reached what is now known as Thailand around the 3rd century B.C. where it was taught and practised in the monasteries as well as within the family unit. Most of the written tradition was lost during the Burmese invasion in 1776 but the oral tradition was handed down within families and this ensured the survival of this art.

With the advent of Western medicine Thai Massage became neglected until the late 80's when the limits of western medicine became aparent. Since than it has seen a revival and has also become very popular in the West.

What does the treatment look like?

During the massage you lie on a mattress wearing loose clothing while I treat your whole body using a flowing sequence of applied pressure to the Sen lines and pressure points, stretches, yoga like postures and massage movements.

I give the massage in a meditative mood and work with full awareness, mindfulness and concentration. I am using my bodyweight rather than strength and perform the treatment in rhythm with my breathing - the flowing sequence of movements resembling a "dance" between the giver and the receiver.

    Reiki

    What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word and means universal life force energy - the energy which is around us and flows through us and every living being. It is an ancient hands-on healing therapy which addresses body, mind and spirit.
I practise the traditional form of Usui Reiki honouring the spiritual lineage of Dr. Mikao Usui. He was a Japanese Christian Minister who rediscovered this ancient buddhist healing art in the early 20th century after years of research and went on to develop it as it is known today.

What does the treatment look like?

During the treatment you lie on a couch, fully dressed and covered with a blanket and I place my hands on your body in a sequence of positions, thereby acting as a channel for the reiki energy. You are the healer yourself as you draw in reiki to where it is needed - physically, mentally and emotionally.

The treatment is a highly relaxing experience which many people describe as "being in the present". You may feel various sensations such as heat, cold or tingling in certain parts of your body or you may simply fall into a "reiki slumber".
The Reiki session lasts one hour.

    What are the benefits?

Reiki stimulates your own healing abilities to heal physical ailments and raise your awareness of the underlying causes of disease and pain. It promotes deep relaxation, restores emotional balance, detoxifies the body and also strenghens the immune system.

Reiki is beneficial for all physical conditions and pains such as:

What does the treatment look like?

    Therapies Offered #14
You lie on the treatment couch on your side and I insert the bottom end of the candle into the entrance of the ear and light the candle at the top end. The flame creates a "chimney" effect inside the ear drawing out excess fluids, wax and toxic debris from ears and sinuses.

The treatment of both ears takes around 30 minutes and it is concluded with 15 minutes of either head and face massage or reiki according to your wishes and needs.

    What are the benefits?

The treatment is a very relaxing and soothing experience and the hot air gently massages the inside of the ear which has many reflex points which correspond with all parts of the body. Hopi Ear Candles are a safe and non-invasive way of maintaining auricular hygiene.

  • excess ear wax
